Art for your Ears!

Aaron Goodyke

As the summer draws to a close, another wonderful experience becomes memory. Today was my last day working with an organization that I have drawn close to over the past 2 years––the Chamber Music Festival of Saugatuck(CMFS). This was my second and final year as an intern through the Joan Conway Young Artists program.

Tonight's concert was exceptional, just like last week & the week fact, there is no end to the amazing talent brought in by our fantastic Artistic Directors Andrew Le and Jennifer Walvoord. Seriously. It is some of the best music found in West Michigan (I realize that is bold statement, but I wouldn't have said it if I didn't believe it).

Educating the audience, bringing in accomplished artists, and a true commitment to preserving the life and vibrance of chamber music are the pillars of this festival's mission. I recall speaking with one of the performers tonight about how special it is to play in an environment such as this, where new and familiar faces share food, fellowship, and a passion for music in a historical hall of 139 seats. A perfect venue for the melodies of Schubert, the drama of Strauss, and the rich textures of Dvorák!

So, after two years of managing the concerts, preparing the stage, making new friends, learning from great teachers, and listening to music come alive in an intimate space, I say farewell to the backstage role of the festival. A bittersweet day.

Whenever I am home, I know there is high-quality music not too far down the road. In fact, whenever I am away from home, I can be confident that fine art still lives on through the Chamber Music Festival of Saugatuck. And it always will.

Maybe that means it is more than just a memory? I believe so.

Soli Deo Gloria
