Today, we at Hope College had the privilege of inviting the singing/songwriting duo All Sons & Daughters to Dimnent Chapel. They opened up our weekly Chapel service by singing a rendition of "I Surrender All" and their own composition "Great are You Lord". Before that, however, they read a prayer from St. Francis of Assisi:
Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is error, the truth;
Where there is doubt, the faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled, as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.
I am grateful for David & Leslie, for their voices, and for their passion in writing beautiful words for the church to echo. These words struck me because lately I feel as though I have been doing the wrong things. I have been in error and not sought truth; I have doubted and pushed away faith; I feel lost in darkness and cannot find the light.
I think that is why it means so much to me today that the sun is shining.
I am thankful for these words, for people that encourage me, and for those that challenge me to be better.
Soli Deo Gloria
